Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks will sign point guard
Derek Fisher on Thursday, Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said after the team's
101-78 loss to the Bulls Wednesday night.
"We need help at the point guard position. I might as well announce that we
are going to sing Derek Fisher (Thursday)," Carlisle said. "I think he can
really help our situation with experience, defensively and really in all
aspects of the game."
Fisher, 38, spent parts of last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and the
Oklahoma City Thunder.
Over 16 seasons, Fisher has won five NBA titles in two separate stints with
the Lakers (1996-2004, 2007-2012), and has also made stops in Golden State
(2004-2006) and Utah (2006-2007).
The Arkansas-Little Rock product was dealt to the Rockets last season, but
took a buyout and later signed with the Western Conference-champion Thunder.
Over 1173 career games, Fisher has averaged 8.6 points and 3.1 assists per
game.
