Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - The Columbus Blue Jackets announced Wednesday that the club signed forward Derek Dorsett to a three-year contract. Terms of the contract were not released.

Dorsett, who will enter his fifth season, set career highs with 12 goals, 20 points and a league-leading 235 penalty minutes in 77 games in 2011-12.

"Derek is an extremely competitive and hard-working player," Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson said. "He has improved every year and we look forward to his continued growth as a player and leader on our team."

The 25-year-old native of Saskatchewan was Columbus' seventh-round pick in the 2006 draft. In addition to collecting 674 penalty minutes, Dorsett has scored 24 goals and has 56 points over 256 NHL appearances.
