U.S. national team's 2014 World Cup away jersey looks like a popsicle

The U.S. men's national team will be wearing all-white during any home games during the 2014 World Cup. During away matches, the U.S. will be wearing the Dutch flag upside down.

The U.S. has never looked like this on a soccer pitch before. Take that for whatever it's worth.

"The USA has a profound and passionate pride in their nation," said Martin Lotti, Creative Director for Nike Soccer. "We wanted to create a design that reflected this in a daring and colorful fashion to give them an even more imposing appearance on the pitch."

Daring, colorful — basically, the uniform is a handful of shiny stars away from being a Katy Perry outfit.

Make no mistake, this would be a great kit if it were a third uniform for a professional team. Something to generate a little buzz around the fanbase, coerce an extra $90 out of your pocket, and give you something whimsical to wear. As a look you get every once in a while when you're feeling sassy, this is a great design. However, the U.S. will be wearing this in a World Cup.

When designing a uniform for a country competing in the most prestigious tournament it can enter – as a rule — you have to be careful to not make the country look like a Bomb Pop.

Nike made the U.S. look like a Bomb Pop.
