Michael Wacha was scheduled to start on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs, Carlos Martinez will make the start instead. The Cardinals will skip Wacha this weekend, but don't worry he is not injured, the team just wants to give him and his shoulder some extra rest.
While the timing is not ideal with the Cubs coming to town, it is the only real option the Cardinals have skip him without needing an extra starter to fill his spot. With the off day today, Martinez can make the start Saturday on his normal four days of rest. After today, the Cardinals play 47 games in the next 68 days.
The caution with Wacha is not surprising, as the talented right-hander has had his share of shoulder problems. Wacha had missed time in each of the previous three seasons with shoulder problems.
Wacha has gotten off to a good start in 2017, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.19 era.
