She plans to launch "The Paula Deen Network," a subscription-based Internet network in September, she says on her websitepauladeen.com
"Y'all can get my recipes, tips and cooking anytime you want – this is for you," she says on her website. "I can't wait to crank up the oven and get cooking for the people I love: my family, my friends and my fans!"
Deen tellsThe Wall Street Journal that she had offers to launch a new show on TV but saw the Web as a way to reach her fans directly and to take ownership and control over her career and intellectual property. "The fans are going to see things they have never seen before. They are going to see all of me."
The warm, down-home cooking star known for her Southern recipes loaded with butter and sugar saw her empire all but crumble last year after admitting she had used a racial epithet. She lost numerous product endorsements and her show on the Food Network.
At her lowest, Deen says, she took comfort in the kitchen. "I made eight cakes in six days," she told People magazine in February. The crazed baking prompted her husband of nearly 10 years, Michael Groover, to tell her, "Honey, I don't know if I'm going to survive this," she recalls.
"I used to have dreams that I lost everything," Deen said. "And when it finally happens, you think, 'I'm still alive.' " As for what's she's learned, she says, "Michael told me, 'You've learned how badly words can hurt and how powerful they are.' I have been hurt by them, and I unintentionally hurt others. But I don't want that to define who I am."
