FERGUSON, Mo. – Among the glitz and glamour of the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night, celebrities turned their thoughts and attention to Ferguson for a brief moment during festivities.

Rapper Common, who presented the Best Hip Hop VMA, asked the audience to give a moment of silence for Michael Brown and for peace in the country.

"Hip hop has always presented a voice for the revolution," he said prior to the silence.

August 9, a Ferguson police officer shot and killed Brown, who was unarmed. For several days afterward, the protests and unrest in the community captured national attention.

Several entertainers, including Nelly and Young Jeezy, have spoken out on Ferguson.
