Steve Parks isn't a guy who spins his wheels.

"This is what they call a fat tire bike," Parks explains pulling the bike out.

But he did build a business around them.

"We started in 1979," Parks points out.

It was his last year of college.

"I needed a part time job for after school and so I did bicycle sales and repairs," he goes on to explains.

He got his degree in education, but shifted gears.

"My last year at SIU I decided to open the store," he adds.

And for more than 30 years he's been educating customers about cycling.

"They make different bikes for different types of riding," Parks says.

The Cyclery and Fitness Center

has bikes built for speed and others that allow you to cruise comfortably. Basically this place has you covered from head to toe, but trying to sell all of it doesn't allow Parks much time to get out and enjoy it.

"I have to get up at 5:30, 6:00 o'clock to get my rides in," he says.

Thankfully he doesn't have to go far because Edwardsville is home to some of the best trails in the area.

"We have over 100 miles of trails whether you want to do mountain bike riding whether you want to do leisure riding," he explains.

The trails have been good for business at a business that sort of started by accident.
