O'FALLON, Ill. (KSDK) -- A crash temporarily shut down Interstate 64 near Scott Air Force Base Sunday.

The crash involved a bus carrying nine inmates.

Around the 4:30 this morning, the bus driver lost control traveling westbound on interstate 64 at the Green Mount Road exit in O'fallon, Illinois.

The bus overturned and ended up in the center median facing eastbound. Nine inmates and four guards were on board. All were taken to the hospital. As of Sunday afternoon, four of the inmates have been released from the hospital and are in custody in the St. Clair County jail. The five remaining inmates are being treated at St. Louis hospitals. The four guards are also being treated at St. Louis hospitals, along with the 29-year-old driver.

Illinois state police are guarding the prisoners who are still receiving treatment for their injuries. Investigators are still looking into what caused the crash but they have ruled out foul play.
