ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) -- A former school in north St. Louis could see a wrecking ball soon after a fire tore through the building.

Bricks now surround rubble from the fire that collapsed the roof of Hempstead Elementary Saturday evening. Hempstead Elementary is located in the 5800 block of Minerva.

St. Louis Fire Department received a call around 6:30 p.m. that the three-story building was on fire.

The school has been vacant for more than 10 years. Authorities are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
