ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - There are people in this word like Cher and Madonna who need only one name and then there's this guy who needs no name.
"I'm running to catch an elevator up to one of the live segments I have to do during a game and Ozzie's in the elevator and he says, 'Hey hold the door for that one guy,' and so I'm like, 'Holy cow Ozzie Smith just called me that one guy,'" explained Todd Thomas, better known as "That One Guy."
He stitched it on his jersey and the name stuck. These days it's actually on the back of 23 jerseys.
"There's red ones and white ones and vintage ones and throwback ones," Thomas pointed out. It's like wearing his heart on his sleeve.
"I grew up a Cardinal fan and I wanted to work for the Cardinals and I got tons of rejection letters right out of college," Thomas said.
But things have a way of working out and for 17 seasons Todd Thomas has been entertaining fans between innings.
"We want to add an element to the game without taking away from it," Thomas explained. Most of what you see starts with a script.
"There's a lot said about the contestants that you pick. I'm looking through the crowd, I'm looking to find that person with a mullet, that person with a huge tattoo, that person with their face painted," Thomas added.
The rest is Todd's mojo on the jumbotron. It's a job this father of three will do until it's not fun anymore, but don't plan on that being anytime soon.
