KSDK – Some would say that the internet exists as a way for mankind to distribute information and to stay perpetually connected, unhindered by national borders or political boundaries. But those people are mistaken. There is one true reason why the internet exists: as a place where the sheer delight and utter cuteness of cat videos can be available to all.

And so, on this fall morning (a morning that marks National Cat Day), we took on the difficult task of compiling some of the best cat videos on YouTube, which you can watch below.

National Cat Day was founded in 2005 to raise public awareness for the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cats in their lives for their unconditional love and companionship.

The Animal House Cat Shelter in St. Louis will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday for car adoptions. To learn more, go to http://animalhousefund.org.

Have your own cat video to share? Send it to asylte@ksdk.com and we'll include it in the list.

"Surprised Kitty"

It is a simple concept: somebody tickles their tiny little kitten. But words cannot convey the adoreableness that ensues.

"Fluffy kitten is confused"

A fluffy cat with big, adorable eyes duels with a shiny toy in a battle for the ages.

"My cat Tiggy talking/speaking saying hello"

Is this cat really saying hello? You be the judge.

"My cat speaks when he is awoken"

It's a human voiceover (I think anyway), but it's still pretty funny – and the cat's body language is really what sells this cat video.

"Funny cats in water, EPIC"

Almost 80 million pageviews don't lie. If Orson Welles decided to follow "Citizen Kane" with a cat video, this would be it.

"The Original Grumpy Cat"

No list revolving around cats would be complete without the legendary Grumpy Cat. In this video, watch her bite the hand that feeds her.

"Funny Cats"

Any oldie but a goodie. This video explores cats doing funny things.
