Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart, a 1998 documentary by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, will air as part of the American Masters series on select PBS stations starting Thursday through Nov. 7 (check here for times and dates).
The rock trailblazer died Sunday at his home in Amagansett, N.Y., as a result of liver disease.
The one-hour film traces Reed's career, starting with the creation of the Velvet Underground in 1965, and examines his impact on American music.
"Lou Reed's music was the backbeat to our lives and his lyrics were our conscience," filmmaker Greenfield-Sanders said in a statement. "His death is a blow, not only to New York City, but also to the world."
