ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Fire is not usually something chef's like seeing in their restaurant.

But at Tani Sushi Bistro in Clayton, you can order sushi with a side of heat.

"Everybody loves fire" said owner Eric Heckman.

Tani has become known for this sushi roll in particular with shrimp tempura, crab, shrimp, avocado, spicy sauce and eel sauce. It's served fresh... and on fire.

"For us to be so bold to name it the 'Oh My God' roll, it's gotta deliver a pretty good punch," Heckman said.

And a pretty good profit. Heckman says last year, they sold 20,000 flaming rolls.

"You seen that kinda success, you want to light everything on fire and hope it works but you just can't," Heckman said.

Putting flames on the menu is spreading. Olympia Kebob House and Taverna in St. Louis will also light up your day.

"It's fried cheese, it's part of heaven… originated from Greece. Setting it on fire at the table started in Chicago in 1968. We do it here now and it's one of the most famous dishes we have here," Sheila Roberts, Olympia Kebob House and Taverna server, said

Like the flaming sushi at Tani, the flaming cheese at Olympia is a hot seller.

Server Sheila Roberts says last year, they sold about 10,000 plates of Saganaki.

"That's a lot of cheese," she said.

So whether it's sushi or cheese, if you light it on fire, it will catch.

"Somebody orders it, everybody orders it in the room," Roberts said.

"People walk by and say what is that what is that I gotta get one," Heckman said.
