TAIWAN - The ubiquitous giant rubber duck that sailed into harbors around the world exploded during a visit to Taiwan.
It met its demise just hours before the countdown to the New Year. Organizers say they don't know what caused the explosion, but the creator of the duck, a Dutch artist, had criticized its installation arrangements.
One woman said she mourned for the duck about three seconds. Another said that maybe something happened when it was washed.
The giant rubber duck has visited London, Hong Kong, Pittsburgh and Sydney, Australia.
