ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - While the average college bar evokes images that may perhaps be the exact opposite of a church, the two elements come together on Sunday nights at Humphrey's Restaurant and Tavern near St. Louis University.
The site is a typical bar, one adorned with neon signs, dartboards, video games and background noise. Drinks are also available during the Gathering United Method Church's Sunday night services.
"It's an awkward but awesome worship space," Dave Merrill, director of college-age ministries and site pastor at the Gatherings SLU site, said in a news release. "We don't encourage or discourage drinking. We have found that the two worlds of bar and worship exist together beautifully."
The services are aimed toward students living near SLU.
The services meet at 7:30 p.m. Sundays at Humphrey's Restaurant and Tavern, 3700 Laclede Avenue in St. Louis.
