Back in November, we learned that one of the most popular songs in America was inspired by the Kanasas City Royals.

Lorde explained how her song Royals, the Billboard chart-topping single, was conceived with the help of Kansas City's baseball team to VH1 in September of last year:

"I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs," Lorde told us when we sat down with her recently. "He was a baseball player and his shirt said, 'Royals.'" Lorde was so taken by the image and the word that she penned the song around that idea. "It was just that word. It's really cool."

When that revelation surface, the Royals forged a friendship with Lorde. You might think a major league baseball team and 17-year-old artist from New Zealand might not have much in common. However, you're wrong, because love of George Brett spans all ages and continents.

When Lorde played Kansas City in March, the Royals sent her a George Brett jersey.

Then it finally happened. Lorde and George Brett in the same room, at the same time.
