STOCKHOLM – St. Louis rock 'n roll royalty Chuck Berry will be honored in front of real royalty this summer in Stockholm.

Berry has been named a laureate of the 2014 Polar Music Prize for his brilliance in turning the electric guitar into a primary instrument of rock 'n roll music and for his magnificent songwriting skills.

He will receive the equivalent of $169,000 at the Aug. 26 ceremony. The Telegraph reports King Carl XVI of Sweden will be in attendance as he has been in years past.

Previous laureates of the Polar Music Prize include Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Bjork, Paul Simon, and Yo-Yo Ma.

Director Peter Sellars will be a co-recipient of this year's prize.
