ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Acclaimed poet Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, and spent the first three years of her life in a home on Hickory Street in south city.

The house isn't far from Chouteau and Compton.
She there until she was three, when her parents divorced and she moved to Arkansas to live with her grandmother.
Angelou died on Wednesday at the age of 86. She's remembered for her award-winning writing, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
