Her Dartmouth commencement speech had the same sound as her Scandal and Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice shows.
Staccato. Forceful. Repititous. Each. Word. Packed with meaning that will leave you weeping you as you read/watch/listen to what she has to say.
TV mogul and alum Shonda Rhimes spoke to the graduating class about her "terror" at having to speak in front students and she gave them some words of advice.
Here are the highlights:
1. SHE WAS SO SCARED SHE WAS AFRAID SHE WOULD "POOP" HER PANTS.
"I don't like giving speeches. I like to write stuff for other people to say. I actually contemplated bringing Ellen Pompeo or Kerry Washington here to say my speech for me."
2. SHE SAYS THAT BEING TOLD TO "DREAM BIG" IS "JUST CRAP."
"Dreams are lovely. But they are just dreams…Dreamers often end up living in the basements of relatives, fyi."
3. HER MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE:"DON'T BE AN A–HOLE."
"Find a cause you love. It's okay to just pick one. You are going to need to spend a lot of time out in the real world trying to figure out how to stop being a lost loser so one cause is good. But find one. And devote some time every week to it."
4. HASHTAGS DON'T COUNT
"A hashtag is not helping. #yesallwomen #takebackthenight #notallmen #bringbackourgirls #StopPretendingHashtagsAreTheSameAsDoingSomething"
