CLAYTON, Mo. (KSDK) – It was a first of its kind religious celebration in our area.

A big group took to the streets of Clayton in honor of the completion of a handwritten Torah.

When it was finished, near 200 people carried the Torah to the St. Louis Kollel on Delmar in University City. It's actually a rare and ancient tradition.

But this is the first time the call went out to the entire St. Louis Jewish community for a communal Torah parade.

"This is one of the momentous occasions that a Jew can experience," Rabbi Shlomo Soroka of the St. Louis Kollel said. "The completion of the Torah scroll isn't something that happens every day. It takes a year to complete."

The dedication and celebration ended with a ceremony at Logan College.
