St. Louis (KSDK) -- October 27, 2011 will go down as one of the best World Series baseball games in history and a gut wrenching loss for the Texas Rangers.

USA TODAY baseball writer Bob Nightengale said it ranks right up there with some of the bestWorld Series games ever played, includingthe 1986 World Series between the Mets and Red Sox. The Red Sox were up by two runs in the 10th inningand lostthe game to the Mets.

The Texas Rangers were two strikes away twice from winning the franchise's first World Series title Thursday night, but the Cardinals kept battling back to win it in the 11th inning with David Freese's walk-off home run.

The Cardinals scored in the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th innings, which is the first time in World Series history that has happened.

Busch Stadium was electric and Nightengale said fans were still inside the ballpark 45 minutes after the game ended because theyrefused toleave.

Nightengale said the Cardinals have so much momentum heading into Game 7 Friday night and hethought it must have been hard for theRangers to sleep last night.

Matt Harrison will get thestart for the Rangers. ChrisCarpenter is expected to pitch for the Cardinals onshort rest.
