Arlington, VA (KSDK) - A new acting executive vice president has been named for the six Imagine Schools campuses in the St. Louis area.

Alan Olkes will replace Sam Howard, who was placed on administrative leave.

Olkes has more than 50 years of education experience, and served as Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth largest district in the nation.

"From the classroom to school leadership, Alan brings a wealth of knowledge that will help our six Imagine campuses in St. Louis build on our strong programs and work with our staff to improve those areas that need attention," said CEO Dennis Bakke.

Imagine Schools operate 75 public charter schools in 12 states, and educate over 42,000 students.
