St. Louis (KSDK) - A St. Louis man just paid $3,000 to get his stolen Harley back. The bike was found last September near Jacksonville, Illinois, but police didn't tell the victim for three months.

Bobby Hartzell's Harley was stolen from the Schnucks store at Interstate 55 and Loughborough in south St. Louis.

The motorcycle was found a few days later 80 miles away in Illinois, and then went to a tow yard.
Hartzell said St. Louis police said they didn't know the bike had been found until late December.

Morgan County authorities said they contacted St. Louis police last September via email and on the phone.

"I was just told this morning by a St. Louis lieutenant that I just gotta pay for it and I'm not sure how sure how that's fair," said Hartzell.

St. Louis police said a detective did attempt to contact Hartzell on the phone starting in September, but never got a hold of him. Police said they are attempting to work with the towing company to resolve the issue.
