Brentwood, MO (KSDK) - Brentwood leaders announced Tuesday night the city is spending between $50,000 and $75,000 on a state audit.

Voters gathered enough signatures on a petition to call for the audit after the former city administrator, Christopher Seemayer, pled guilty to embezzling nearly $30,000 from the city back in June.

"This is based on allegations that were made of embezzlement by a former city staffer and also allegations of abuse of overtime policies abuse of charitable contributions a whole series of allegations," said State Auditor Tom Schweich.

The audit could take several months.
