St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Local gospel and R&B singer David Peaston, who achieved acclaim performing at the Apollo Theater in the late 1980s, passed away Wednesday following complications with diabetes. He was 54.
Peaston is survived by his wife, Marilyn, sons Daniel and Darius, and nieces and nephews.
David Peaston was the son of gospel singer Martha Bass. His older sister,soul singer Fontella Bass, was best known for her 1965 hit single "Rescue Me."
His highest charting song was "Two Wrongs (Don't Make It Right)," which reached No. 3 on the R&B charts in 1989.
According to his Wikipedia page, Peaston won several amateur night competitions at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, with his rendition of "God Bless the Child." He was named 'Best New Artist' at the 1990 Soul Train Music Awards.
