Festus, MO (KSDK) -

Eat your heart out, Huck Finn.

A local man fishing off the banks of the Mississippi River late Thursday night reeled in a one hundred-pound catfish.

The man was with several friends when they caught the monster fish around 11 p.m.

The fishermen had no idea on the size of the fish, but as the minutes passed by, the notion of small haul went away. Fifteen minutes after the initial strike, they finally hauled the catfish in.

While the haul is impressive, it's surprisingly nowhere near close to a state record. A Florissant man caught a 130-pound blue catfish from the Missouri River in June 2010. The biggest fish on state record is a 139-pound, 4-ounce paddlefish caught in Table Rock Lake in March 2002.
