Fenton, MO (KSDK) - A local town that's been battered by layoffs in the last few yearsis takinganother blow. Four years ago, 1200 jobs in Fenton vanished when the Chrysler plant closed. Now, hundreds more are disappearing.

Acompany that makes military and police gear is laying off 325 employees at its location just outside Fenton.

ATK, based inArlington, Virginiahas locations all over the United States. The location in unincorporated Jefferson County is set to lay off 325 employees in the next 60 to 90 days. The employees affected were notified this week.

Between 20 and 30 employees will continue to work at the Fenton area location.

An ATK manufacturing facility in Onalaska, Wisconsin that employs 130 people is set to close permanently.

The layoffs were made after the company's facilities and future endeavors were analyzed.

"We keep hearing the economy is recovering and then we get this kind of news and it sort of brings us back to reality that there are stil business struggling in this economy," said Fenton Mayor Dennis Hancock.
