St. Louis, Mo. (KSDK) -- Armond Jefferson, 12, is expected to be hospitalized for up to seven days. The Ferguson sixth-grader was shot in the abdomen Friday night after an 18-year-old cousin found a handgun underneath a dumpster in the alley behind Shonette's Conner's home.
"I guess it was probably like sticking out," said Conner, as she led a Newschannel 5 crew to thebright green dumpster. "That's where they retrieved it at."
The cousin and some other kids brought the gun into Conner's home. That's where the 18-year-old accidentally shot Jefferson.
Conner was asked if she has any idea where the gun came from.
I don't have a clue," said Conner. "There are so many random people walking up and down the alley and streets, so I really don't know."
Jefferson's mother spent much of Saturday at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
"He's better; he was shot in the stomach and it went into his side," said Almanda Conner, Armond's mother."But he's doing better; they did the surgery. It went good."
She commented on the circumstances surrounding her son's shooting.
"I think they found it in the alley," said Almanda. "I haven't got the whole story yet, but from what I hear they found it in the alley. It's crazy, it's ridiculous."
