Economy, PA (WTAE) -- Two 13-year-old girls were run over by a car after they fell asleep while sunbathing in the middle of the road.

They are okay. But witnesses say it was terrifying.

In Beaver County, two medical helicopters landed near Economy Borough, where medics loaded two 13-year-old girls, Samantha Schermanhorn and Kaylie George, after a horrible accident.

Shermanhorn's cousins say they witnessed the aftermath.

"I'm very upset. It was like the worst thing I've ever seen."

Nicole and Nicholas Beck say their 19-year-old brother was driving up Donald Avenue, and stopped at a stop sign. But they say their 13-year-old cousin and her friend were lying there, suntanning in the road. And their brother, they say, made the turn, not noticing the girls.

"They told us that they fell asleep in the road. And my brother went and turned and hit them."

"I was like crying real bad and shaking."

911 was called. Meanwhile, the cousins say the girls were conscious, telling them they had fallen asleep, all while lying in the sun.

Ambulances arrived and took the girls to a nearby site, where the helicopters were able to land.

The Becks say their brother was taken in for questioning, but that this was all just one tragic accident.

The girls were listed in fair condition at the hospital.
