St. Louis, MO (KSDK)

- St. Louis police said a man was injured in an incident involving a police officer.

Police were called to the area of East Labadie and Whittier in north St. Louis around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday after reports of assaults in the area.

Two officers patrolling the area saw a man adjust his waistband as if he was trying to hide a weapon, so they got out of the patrol car to speak to him. Officers saw the man had a gun and ordered him to drop it.

Police said the man took off running and then fell and dropped the gun. The man stood back up and grabbed the gun, so one of the officers fired a shot.

Police saw the man's hand was bleeding so they initially thought he had been shot, but a hospital examination determined the man had cuts on his hands and had not been hit with a bullet.

No officers were injured during the shooting.
