St. Louis (KSDK/TSN) -- St. Louis Cardinal Lance Berkman will have surgery on his right knee Friday.

The St. Louis Cardinals said the first baseman's surgery was originally planned for Thursday morning, but was postponed because of a conflict in the surgeon's schedule in Houston.

Berkman had an MRI on Monday which revealed he had a torn meniscus.

The 14-year veteran was injured Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers while stretching to make a catch at first base on a routine ground ball hit to shortstop Rafael Furcal.

Berkman was helped off the field and was initially diagnosed with a right knee strain before being placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.

The six-time All-Star is batting .333 with five doubles, a homer and four runs batted in this season, but has played just 13 games.
