Valley Park, MO (KSDK) - According to Board of Alderman meeting minutes, Valley Park Mayor Nathan Grellner hasn't been to a Board of Alderman meeting since late February.
Documents NewsChannel 5 requested show Grellner was counted absent from the last five Board of Alderman meetings. The board meets twice a month.
Some of the reasons for the no-shows written in the minutes included illness, wife's illness and late last year he missed because of furnace problems.
Board of Alderman President Mike Pennise tells Newschannel 5 he is currently serving as acting mayor while Grellner is hospitalized due to exhaustion.
Police in Byrnes Mill arrested Grellner Tuesday for DWI.
Pennise says city business is going on as usual and says there hasn't been any ill effect from the mayor's absence from meetings.
But Valley Park Resident Deborah Robinson says she's disappointed in the mayor's behavior.
"I honestly think that's really a darn shame, I mean, you know, we put them in an office that they're here to serve us and I don't think that's right," said Robinson.
Some alderman say a committee aimed at beautifying the city has been in limbo since the mayor has been absent from meetings because he has to appoint the members, but the acting mayor says he plans to take care of that.
