Jackson, MO (KSDK)- A man form St. Louis County was killed over the weekend, after the van he was a passenger in, had a tire blow-out and sent the vehicle out of control and rolling off Interstate 55.

The crash occurred Saturday morning around 7:15 a.m. south of Jackson in Cape Girardeau County. Killed was 49 year old Charles Burnes of Fenton.

Six other people in the van including the teenage driver were all injured in the crash.

Reports from the Missouri Highway Patrol said 18 year old Erika Flynn of Fenton lost control on south I-55 after a tire on the Chevrolet minivan exploded and sent the vehicle off the right side of the highway where it rolled over into a ditch.

Burnes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Flynn had moderate injuries. Three children and two other adults in the van were also injured, including one seriously.
