Clayton, MO (KSDK)-A north St. Louis County woman who is charged in the death of her eleven month old daughter has made application for the public defender to represent her at trial in September.

During a Monday court hearing, the attorney representing Latoshia Washington; 33 of Spanish Lake,withdrew from the second degree murder case against Washington.

Prosecutors charged the womanin the August 2010 death of her infant daughter Jewel.

Authorities say the baby girl had suffered severe internal and brain injuries which Washington explained as coming from squeezing the child.

Police records show Washington also indicated she had caused the injuries to the baby after repeatedly shaking the child and slamming the baby into a pumpkin seat.

Washington remains jailed on a quarter million dollar bond awaiting trial which was tentatively set for September 24th.

The case is expected to be a bench trial, meaning the Judge will decide Washington's guilt or innocence.
