Bloomsdale, MO (KSDK) --A 31-year-old highway construction worker who was killed by a dump truck at a Ste. Genevieve County job site has been identified.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Larry Dye was picking up signs when he tried to cross southbound I-55 and was hit by the dump truck as it backed-up northbound in a closed lane.

The accident happened around 10:45 a.m. Monday, near Bloomsdale, about four miles south of Missouri highways OO/DD.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Al Nothum said the dump truck was not traveling at a high rate of speed. The dump truck struck the worker, knocked him to the ground, and then continued to back up over him.

Nothum said it appears to be an accident and it is doubtful whether criminal charges will be pursued in the matter. Nothum said he does not yet know whether OSHA will be investigating the incident.
