Fenton, MO (KSDK) - Firefighters are used to saving lives, but some members of the Fenton Fire Department found themselves trying to save the life of a smaller member of a family today.

Fire crews responded to the 1900 block of San Lucas for a fire in a home around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived they called for a second alarm to help extinguish the fire as quickly as possible.

When they entered the home they found a cat and rescued the animal from the burning home.

Coincidentally, when they received the call for the fire, they were training with oxygen masks specifically designed for animals.

The training paid off, and at last check the cat is doing well.

The home suffered serious damage and is uninhabitable at this time.
