(NBC/Warner Brothers) -- Many of the screenings of "The Dark Knight Rises" included a preview of a movie with a plot eerily similar to the Colorado theater shooting.

The "Gangster Squad" trailerfeatures a scene in which 1940's ear gangsters shoot up a movie theater filled with people.

"Gangster Squad"stars Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling and is scheduled to be released in September.

It's advertised as being based on a true story of mafia activity in Los Angeles.

Warner Brothers has since pulled the trailer. The studio produced both "Gangster Squad" and "The Dark Knight Rises."

The controversial scene is about 2:06 into the trailer below.
