Washington, MO (KSDK) -- The severe storms that rolled through the area on Saturday night caused theREO Speedwagon performance atthe Washington fair to shut down, Lynn Stewart, a spokesperson for the fair, says.
Stewart says the storms started to come in the Washington Town and Country fair around 8:40 p.m.
At that time, they shut down the REO Speedwagon concert and advised fair-goers to leave the area.
Stewart says those that were unable to leave were directed to safe shelters.
A tornado warning was issued, and they then directed everyone to a sturdier shelter until the storm passed.
Thestorm caused the fair to cancelfor the remainder of Saturday evening.
There are no reports of any injuries.
They do not have an assessment of any damage at this time.
Stewart estimates there were around 11,500 people at the fair when the storm hit.Just under1,000 were still in the shelters around midnight.
Stewart says the fair will go on as scheduled on Sunday.
