St. Louis (KSDK) - A Survey USA poll conducted for NewsChannel 5 shows William Lacy Clay is favored to win Missouri's re-drawn 1st Congressional District, defeating Russ Carnahan in Tuesday's primary election.
The survey shows Clay ahead of Carnahan 56 percent to 35 percent. Candice Britton received two percent of the vote, and seven percent of voters surveyed said they were undecided.
White Democratic voters are choosing Carnahan 3:1, while black Democratic voters choose Clay 7:1, according to the survey.
Carnahan leads Independents 5:2, and leads among conservatives, but Clay has an advantage with moderates and liberals.
The survey was conducted by cell phone and home phone calls, with 950 registered voters from the state of Missouri participating.
