Wildwood, Mo (KSDK) -- Several area school districts will start school Monday, including Rockwood, Valley Park, Bayless, Parkway and Webster Groves.

NewsChannel 5's Bree Smith was at the Rockwood bus depot as buses rolled out for the first time this school year.

According to the National Safety Council, riding a bus to school is 13 times safer than riding in a passenger vehicle and 10 times safer than walking to school.

It is illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped picking up or dropping off students.

Traffic in both directions on undivided roadways must stop.

Drivers must leave an area 10 feet around a school bus to give children enough room to enter and exit the bus safely.

Kids can be unpredictable. They can ignore hazards are fail to look both ways when crossing the street, so be alert.
