Rolla, MO (KSDK) - A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday for allegedly murdering his own mother by strangling her, the Rolla Police Department said.

According to Rolla Chief of Police Mark Kearse, officers were contacted Monday evening about a woman who failed to show up for work. The woman's co-workers were concerned about her well-being and asked police to check up on her.

When police arrived at the woman's home in the 1700 block of Forum Drive, they were met by her son, who claimed his mom was out of town.

Chief Kearse said officers grew suspicious of the son's behavior and entered the home to find the woman, 60-year-old Chong Cross, dead. Investigators suspect the woman's son, Daniel Cross, strangled his mother during an argument. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Daniel Cross remains in police custody at Phelps County Jail, Kearse said. Police have submitted a warrant to prosecutors on second-degree murder charges.
