St. Louis (KSDK) - Embattled Missouri Congressman Todd Akin back in St. Louis.
Akin arrived at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport on a Southwest Airlines flight from Columbus, Ohio around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
He was returning after several days in Ohio where he filmed a new television ad apologizing for his comments regarding rape and abortion that set off a political firestorm.
Akin has resisted calls from his own party to exit the U.S. Senate race and NewsChannel 5's Mike Bush was hoping to talk to him about that.
[Bush]: "Can I ask you about your decision to stay in the race?"
"Not right now, we'll catch you a little bit later," said Akin.
[Bush]: "Were you upset that the Republican Party did not back you on all this, and kind of bailed on you?"
"Well , these are exciting days," said Akin.
[Bush]: "Do you still think you can win the race?"
"I believe so," said Akin.
One Republican strategist said if the Congressman is going to stay in the race he will have to say more to the local media soon because we broadcast to his constituents.
