CHARLOTTE -- Bill Clinton not only warmed the hearts of Democrats last night, he beat the NFL's season opener for bragging rights among TV viewers.

The former president's speech nominating President Obama for a second term was watched by an estimated 25.1 million people on Wednesday, according to the Nielsen Co.

By comparison, the Dallas Cowboys' victory over the New York Giants on NBC averaged 23.9 million TV viewers.

Clinton's full-throttled, humorous and lengthy endorsement for Obama captivated thousands of delegates inside the Time Warner Cable Arena. ABC, CBS, CNN, Current TV, FOX News, MSNBC and PBS carried Clinton's speech live on Wednesday night.

Despite his victory over the NFL, Clinton cannot say he has been the most-watched Democratic headliner this week. First lady Michelle Obama drew 26.1 million TV viewers on Tuesday night, according to Nielsen.
