St. Louis (KSDK) -- Three schools in the St. Louis-metro area are winners of the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards from the U.S. Department of Education.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced Lindbergh High School, St. Gerard Majella Catholic School in Kirkwood and Valley Park Senior High School were among the 269 schools who won the award.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students' levels of achievement.
