St. Louis (KSDK) - If you drive on Interstate 70 in St. Louis you've probably noticed an old train trestle has a new look.

A group called Great Rivers Greenway is painting the overpass in North City as the first step in a larger project.

The group hopes to eventually transform the abandoned trestle into an elevated park that will tie into the Great Rivers Greenway trail system.

"We are going to develop a traditional park. You'll have your bike and pedestrian path that will extend down to the riverfront. You'll also have native plantings, sustainable features, art along the way and history markers featuring this downtown area and all of its history," said Danielle Eickenhorst with Great Rivers Greenway.

The $50 million project will be privately funded and donations are still needed.

A completion date for the project hasn't been set.
