St. Charles, Mo (KSDK) -- A St. Peters man who is accused of driving off during a traffic stop was taken into police custody.

St. Charles police said Travis McClure, 21, was stopped by a St. Charles police officer for a traffic violation at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

McClure gave the officer a fake name that turned out to be the name of a suspect wanted in connection to an armed robbery in St. Charles in 2011, according to police.

Police said McClure drove off from the traffic stop while the officer was waiting for back-up. He drove into a creek and was found hiding in a culvert under Muegge Road near Hackman Road.

Police said McClure is being held pending warrant application on charges of resisting arrest by fleeing, driving while revoked/suspended and posession of drug paraphernalia.

Knight, 19, is McClure's girlfriend and was in the car during the initial traffic stop and pursuit. Police said prosecutors charged her with hindering for allegedly aiding McClure in his attempted false identification efforts.
