St. Louis County, MO (KSDK) - A 54-year-old man was charged Monday in connection with a deadly hit and run accident in Pagedale last week involving two young boys.
Four-year-old Trayeshon Williams and 10-year-old Jayshard Conner were struck Friday night around 7:30 p.m. in the 7300 block of St. Charles Rock Road.
Trayeshon Williams died at the scene. Jayshard Conner was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. He was listed in serious condition.
The truck believed to be involved was found Saturday. Police took a man, identified as Ricky Weeden, into custody Sunday afternoon.
Ricky Weeden was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
Meanwhile, family and friends of the victim are planning a candlelight memorial Monday at 7 p.m. at the site of the accident.
"It has brought the City of St. Louis together, Father God I ask that you strengthen the bereaved family," prays Marilyn Johnson to the crowd during the service.
Lit by the harsh glow of police lights and softness of candles the evening memorial drew a crowd, so large that police officers had to man the street.
Many knew of the family, but Johnson is a longtime family friend. She tells me the family is getting along and is taking care of Jayshard right now who is still in the hospital and doesn't remember much of the accident.
"She's really, really torn right now I mean she's lost her baby, and she's a little confused, not understanding you know why," says Johnson.
The message at the Monday service seemed to be forgiveness.
"I ask father god that the young mother would forgive the man who ran over her children, so she can move on with her life," said Johnson as she continued her prayer to the crowd.
A viewing for Trayeshon Williams will be held Friday, October 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Baptist Church located at 6905 St. Louis Avenue. His funeral will follow at 11 a.m.
