Alton, IL (KSDK) - Alton police say investigators are not searching for any suspects in connection to the death of a woman whose body was found after a house fire early Wednesday.
Police Chief David Hayes says the death in the 1900 block of Orchard was suicide.
Investigators say the body of the 43-year-old mother of two was found in the basement, but she did not die as a result of the fire.
Firefighters responded to the fire shortly before 2 a.m.
Police say the woman has two children, both boys, ages 3 and 5. Those children were staying at the woman's ex-husband's house when the fire broke out.
Officials say investigators believe an accelerant was used in the fire in an effort to make sure it was emergency crews that found the victim's body.
