Spanish Lake, MO (KSDK) - A new documentary is exposing provocative stories of poverty and racism.

A Los Angeles filmmaker is behind it, but the subject hits close to home. That's because it's about his hometown, Spanish Lake.

NewsChannel 5's Art Holliday spoke with him Friday as he's in town to screen the film.

In 2008, Forbes Magazine voted Spanish Lake number six on a list of America's fastest dying towns, towns where jobs were vanishing and poverty levels were rising.

Director Phillip Andrew Morton wanted to explore the ways race, real estate and white fight affected the town where he grew up.
