Jefferson County, MO (KSDK) - Charges have been filed against a manaccused of stealing a vehicle with a baby in the backseat.

Ryan Beckler, 21, has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, kidnapping-facilitating a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Jefferson County Sheriff Oliver "Glenn" Boyer says deputies were called to the 2200 block of Old Highway 21 in Imperial around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of a 1997 black Jeep Cherokee told deputies she left her 19-month-old daughter in the vehicle while she went inside a convenience store. She noticed someone driving her vehicle away as she exited the store.

Deputies found the girl unharmed in a driveway in the 2300 block of Romaine Creek Road and interviewed a witness.

A little over two hours later a deputy saw a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle headed north on Highway 141 near Fieldler Lane in Fenton.

The suspect was stopped on a traffic violation, resisted arrest, and tried to flee. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Beckler is held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
